3 Simple Tips to Help You Plan Your Outfit in the Morning

Fashion design can be really tricky, even when your just picking out your outfit for the first half of the day. As a teenager who dedicates most of her time to her outfit, I can say that every morning is like designing a look for New York Fashion Week. Whether you’re trying to pair your luscious hot pink fur coat with a leopard print top. Or trying to figure out if that new expensive blouse you just bought will actually go with anything in your closet. Here are a few tips to make you look like a fashion designer walking the streets of Manhattan. 

 

 

  1. Simplicity 

It is really easy to overdo an outfit with too many colors, or too many accessories. The easiest way to deal with this is to pick 2-4 colors to work with. Then pick your clothes based on those colors, for example if you chose red and turquoise, you could have your accessories red, your makeup turquoise, your shirt red, your jacket turquoise, so on and so forth. For accessories, “you can never have enough” might be the case, but if you’re worried about having too many, here’s a tip. If you have big, bold earrings, go with a small simple necklace, if you have a bold and dramatic necklace, go with little earrings that have not much color. 

 

 

2. Clashing Colors/Prints

This will happen a ton with me, and the easiest thing to do is to backtrack. If you notice that your shirt color really doesn’t go with your jacket, try a new one. You can always go back and change something in your outfit. If you’re worried that you have too many colors, causing them to clash, pick 2 colors, and base your look off those. If you have a problem with too many patterns, the simplest way to take care of it is to just remove it. If your bag is polka dots, and your shoes are tiger print, remove one, you can just leave the outfit without it, or switch it for a solid color that goes with your outfit.  

 3. Time

As someone who takes 30 – 50 mins in the morning to get ready, I can say that not having enough time can really screw up your look. I have a tendency to sleep through my alarm in the morning, so what I do is prepare my outfit the night before. It doesn’t have to be the exact outfit you will wear, it just needs to be an idea, that way in the morning you can alter it, without having to start from scratch with a limited time. 

 

 

All in all, what matters is that you feel happy, confident, and comfortable in your outfit. Even if you have clashing colors on or way too many animal prints, what matters is that you are feeling good about yourself. And hey, it’s your confident walk that makes you look good.

I’ve realized recently, that my fashion and style are slowly becoming things that someone would wear in college, or when my outfits are more businessy, to an interview. There is no reason for me to be wanting to intern with a fashion designer now or become a model so that I will have extra money to spend on clothes, or even feel like I need to be living up to my idols.
